Against a backdrop critical to the country’s human security and territorial resilience, the Colombian National Army participated in the first National Platform for Disaster Risk Management 2026 (PN26), establishing itself as a key player in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.
The meeting, led by the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, brings together more than 1,600 experts and delegates from 19 countries in Bogotá, establishing itself as the primary forum for technical and policy coordination in this field.
The National Army’s participation is a concrete demonstration of its operational and technical capabilities. Through an interactive booth, the institution showcased its technical and logistical capabilities in search and rescue, wildfire suppression, CBRN incident response, and its ability to deploy to areas with highly complex terrain.
This distinctive capability in emergency response is underpinned by an operational structure comprising more than 600 highly trained personnel, capable of deploying rapidly and efficiently to any point within the national territory. Military logistics serve as a strategic advantage, enabling intervention where access conditions, time constraints, and risk limit other capabilities.
In this context, rescue soldiers represent not only a rapid-response force but also a valuable asset for the protection of life, with standards that position them for interoperability and specialized response scenarios. They also participated in the roundtable discussion “The Colombian Army: a fundamental pillar of risk management,” where the institution highlighted the integration of academic training with operational experience as a key focus.
In this vein, the School of Engineers’ Master’s in Risk Management and Development was highlighted, a pioneering program with over 16 years of experience that has trained military and civilian leaders with the skills to anticipate risk scenarios, plan for the territory, and structure sustainable responses. The unique value of this academic model lies in its applied approach, where knowledge does not remain confined to the classroom but is validated in emergencies, adjusted in the field, and translated into life-saving decisions.
The National Army’s participation in PN26 reaffirms its leadership in disaster risk management and its ability to adapt to future challenges; this combination of knowledge, technology, operational experience, and a commitment to service positions us as an indispensable ally in the protection of Colombians.
